Role play sample:
Heath turned in his sleep, lying on his side with sweat falling off his brow and onto his pillow. Laying in nothing but pajama pants, he had already kicked off the covers as he tossed and turned. In his dream, he could see his parent’s dead faces, with a dark shadow of a man standing over them, laughing a laugh that could only be accomplished if there were no shred of goodness or mercy were inside him. Heath’s hands tightened until his knuckles turned white.
The shadow man looked up at Heath, and even though he couldn’t see the man’s eyes, he knew that the man was searching for something. Suddenly, Heath felt a small hand slip inside his. Surprised, he looked down to see his eight-year-old brother staring up at him. How had he gotten there? He was supposed to be safe. Heath could almost feel the shadow man’s enjoyment of the little boy’s fear as he took a step toward them. Heath growled at him, pulled Tyler behind him and with his free hand searching for anything to protect himself. He had nothing, not a gun, not a knife, not even anything hard.
The shadow continued to get close, a gun in his right hand while both of the hands swung at his sides. The shadow knew that he would win. He knew that Heath was defenseless to defend his brother. Heath took a step back, pulling the smaller version of Tyler on his back. The only thing he could do was run, and the man had a gun. Around them, there was nothing. No sun, yet there was light. No ground, yet they were standing on something. Turning, Heath began to run as fast as his legs could carry him. Heath heard a shot, Tyler’s hands loosened from around his neck. Without looking back at Tyler, Heath knew his brother was dead. He could feel the blood on his back, but still Heath held onto his brother. With a flash of lightning, Heath work up as the thunder rolled, panting and looking out into the darkness at nothing. It had only been a dream, yet still it wouldn’t let Heath sleep for the rest of the night.
Name: Heath Daniels
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Appearance: [What does your character look like? ]
Hair – Heath has dark hair that he doesn’t like to brush all the way. He might brush it a little, but it seems like he likes it messy. He doesn’t get it cut often, so at times it’ll be hanging in his eyes making him look all the more dangerous than before. It’s a dark sandy brown, not deep in hue any other crap he hears about people’s hair color. He has the kind of emo hair, the thin looking but thick in the back hair that is straight in strands.
Eyes – His eyes are a dark brown, again not a deep brown but more of a dark wood brown. At times, his eyes can almost look black. Almost. He has medium eyelashes, so he doesn’t have the eyelashes that girl would envy or anything. His eyebrows are dark and slightly slanted naturally.
Skin - Heath’s skin is somewhat pale, definitely not a person who is in ‘style’. Although he’s not completely pale, he does have some color to his skin tone. His hands aren’t soft and dainty, but rather callused and large. He does seem to take a shower often, if only to get the ‘infectious germs of the happy go lucky people’ off his skin before he became polluted.
Body – His body isn’t one out of a book, but he is tall, being about 5”11. He is only recently growing into his large hands and unlike two years ago, his deep voice no longer is high pitched. He ‘works out’ by often lifting things, and would he sometimes thinks of joining the football team if only to get more muscle. His body is somewhat slim, but his shoulders are somewhat wide but still, not someone out of a romance book. He doesn’t have a straight smile instead, it’s somewhat crooked.
Clothing Style – He doesn’t really have a style other than dark clothing. He’s not goth, or even emo, simply likes to slip in and out places quietly and without making a scene. He doesn’t wear make-up, have piercing, but he is going to get himself a tattoo for his eighteenth birthday.
Personality:
Lazy – Some people would label Heath a lazy bum. He doesn’t have much of a social life, and doesn’t seem to want one. He wears wrinkled clothing uncaringly, his only limit being that he won’t wear something with a stain in it. He tends to sit in the back on classes, leaning back in his chair, tapping his pencil against the desk in front of him.
Dark – Heath doesn’t like to talk to people much. Instead, he carries an aura of mystery around him. He glares at those who get in his way, completely ignores chatters who try to get his attention. He doesn’t like to get give out personal attention. This is one of the many reasons his foster parents recently sent him to a therapists to try and sort out his issues.
Math/science – Heath is what you call, a math wiz. He’s not one of the best students there, but he understands it easy enough and can use it in ever day life. Math and Science go hand in hand, so it’s easy knowledge that if someone is good at one of the two, they at least have potential in the other. He is curious about the reasons of things, why things do the things they do. How things add up to what they do.
English/history – Why know things that had happened before? Heath gives that question his history teacher when he scores low on a test. The things he was learning were in the past, and who really cares if he says me instead of I. An English dork? He doesn’t speak much anyway, so why learn how to speak or write correctly. He isn’t failing either class, but he does come close at times.
Cocky – Heath puts on a cloak of self-confidence, so to speak. He speaks with confidence, always sure of himself. People tend to think little of him, so he tends to show off a little. He doesn’t like being thought of as ‘young’ or as a ‘kid’. He won’t let anyone know the real him. Not since he became a foster child.
Anger/Hurt – Heath has what you call, pet peeves. He is known to get in fights at schools, and at one point being expelled. He doesn’t have a tight leash on his anger, and he acts as if he doesn’t even want to ‘put a cap on it’. His therapist says that he is angry at people because he’s hiding the hurt inside. Then Heath usually tell the man to go to hell, but it almost made sense to him. He doesn’t want anyone close to him, and if that means kicking their ass, so be it.
Skills– After the murder of his parents, Heath got interested in guns. He read books about guns, he studied how to make the guns, he even found books about how to make guns. When Heath was fourteen, his foster father gave him a book on mechanics. It was similar to some of the books he had read, but according to his father parents, ‘they were much better for him’.
Possessive – Heath does NOT like people touching his stuff. He will literally growl at those who touch his stuff. He doesn’t always keep his stuff picked up, so when he comes in to find his dorm mate going through his stuff he usually picks him and ‘gently’ puts him outside, locking the door as it slams in the guy’s face.
Females – His mother was raped several times, and killed when Heath was ten years old. He and his younger brother were the only ones around that could identify the body. He wouldn’t let his eight year old brother to see his mother, but he had vomited when he saw the condition his mother had been in. His mother had taught him to never hurt a female, and seeing her in such a way implanted what she taught in his mind. If he sees a man hit a girl, an image of his mother comes to mind and he can’t help but get upset over it.
History:
Family relationship – Before Heath was born, his family had moved far away from their other relatives. His father had been the outcast of his family so had been cut off from any family activities. They had lived happily without them though, with the occasional visit from his mother’s parents. When Heath was three, his little brother Tyler had been born. Heath was rather annoyed by the little boy who had taken away the attention that had been centered on him for so many years, but that gradually went away. Heath and his father were close, building things together sometimes with the help of Tyler. There were some fights between them all, but who would think that any family was perfect.
Parent’s death – Heath’s parents died on a ‘date’ they had on their anniversary when Heath was ten. The hired babysitter that the parents had hired went home with her money while Heath was left to identify the bodies. He got sick and completely pulled away from everyone except his brother and grandparents. He had many nightmares after identifying the bodies, often screaming in his sleep. After a year, he was no longer screaming, but the nightmares continued. The police hadn’t even solved their murder, so soon the case went cold.
Brother’s separation- According to the law, his mother’s parents were in no shape to take care of the children, and his father’s side of the family wanted nothing to do with them. They were put into the foster community until his grandparents got permission from the law to keep the children, or his father’s side of the family wanted them. In the foster community, Heath and Tyler were separated to ‘cut costs’. No one wanted two boys, they only wanted one boy.
Foster Homes – Heath went to foster home to foster home, causing trouble in each one so perhaps they would put him with his brother finally. He knew how to annoy the people there, how to drive them crazy. He didn’t really care that they were people with feelings, he wanted to get to his brother, and they were his means to get what he wanted. Until he came to the foster family, he was currently in. They drove him insane. The woman refused to get angry, and no matter how much he had gave her in detail about how his mother looked, she simply smiled at him and patted his head before telling him to go do his homework. He would occasionally get in fights with the dad, but still not enough that they wish for another boy. They even put him in mental therapy to ‘try and help him’.
Mental Therapy – Heath has been in mental therapy for a year now, and still won’t say much. He will sit there and calmly watch the person as they talk about ‘letting go of his anger and hurt and be a good little boy.’ Sometimes the man does find the soft spots in Heath’s life and he will let the boy rage on about what he feels in side. In fact, it’s the only way the therapist can get Heath to talk.
